“Here’s to London” @ 606 Club (London, UK)

Well, this is a very interesting and really quite special night. Established in Italy for more than 15 years and at its third appointment in London, CantinaJazz is described by the founders as “a multi-sensory event where tasting fine wines and listening to Jazz fuse together into a whole new, mesmerizing, experience.” Three fine wines from an excellent Tuscan vineyard will be presented, one at a time, throughout the evening, effectively splitting the night in to three distinct, sections, each with its own food, wine and music. Each wine has its own distinctive character and both the food and music served with that wine have been chosen to mirror its taste, personality and history, creating a unique experience that marries wine, food and music into one “characterful” whole. The wines featured this evening will be supplied by the famous Bocelli Family, which has been producing wine for three generations (the picture below presents the full production). The vineyards are located in Lajatico, a suggestive small town in the south-eastern countryside of Pisa, where lays the Teatro del Silenzio made famous by the performances of tenor Andrea Bocelli. For the “foodies” amongst you, we will start with an easy-drinking “1831 Prosecco Gran Cuvée“, a fine, delicate and flourish prosecco, gently sparkling and fresh. The second wine to taste is the “Vermentino 2015”, the typical expression of Tuscan white wine, with a characteristic warm impact and a bitter end, very suitable to be paired with fresh and sweet food. The third and last segment of our fascinating and unique adventure is dedicated to Andrea Bocelli, with the “Tenor Red 2015“, a young, fresh and tasty red wine. The music will be provided by a singer who is a very old hand at this, having presented many such evenings in his native Italy, the excellent Emiliano Loconsolo, accompanied by a terrific UK based quartet: Graham Harvey (piano), Dave Chamberlain (double bass), Sebastian De Krom (drums), and Dave O’Higgins (tenor sax). Emiliano will be performing classic jazz standards to go with each segment of the evening, from swing and bebop for the first one through softer melodies for the second, to more international Italian-sounding tunes for the Tenor Red. To match the wine and music we have asked our wonderful Italian chef Guillermo Farro (known affectionately here as “Gully”) to put together a special Italian menu for the night. In this evening, the menu has been prepared with the collaboration of Salumificio Rosi, a very bright cold cuts factory located in Santa Maria a Monte, close to Pisa. So Gully has come up with some wonderful, homemade dishes for each section of the evening, including: Prawns wrapped in lardo with a Gorgonzola cream, for the prosecco; Pancetta & pea risotto with Parmesan, for the Vermentino; Italian sausage with roasted potatoes, for the Tenor Red. Each menu item has a vegetarian alternative for people that require it. Although it may sound a little “highbrow” that’s certainly not the intention, in true 606 style the idea of the evening is just to have some fun and get to hear some good music, drink some great wine and eat some terrific food – very much like any other night…just with a bit of a twist.

eccoci al terzo appuntamento di “Here’s to London!“, la rassegna dedicata a presentare gli accordi di vino&jazz sul prestigioso palcoscenico londinese del 606 Club in Chelsea (90 Lots Rd., London SW10 0QD). In questo appuntamento, due protagonisti enogastronomici che vengono da Pisa: i vini della Famiglia Bocelli (Lajatico) e i salumi del Salumificio Rosi (Santa Maria a Monte), che, con l’aiuto dell’eccellente chef Guglielmo Farro, si uniranno insieme per uno stupendo percorso gustativo. La serata si apre col “1831 Prosecco Gran Cuvée“, fruttato e gentile, ottimo per dare il benvenuto, soprattutto quando viene servito, come in questo caso, con dei gamberoni in camicia di lardo Rosi e crema di gorgonzola. Il secondo momento, più tradizionale toscano, è dominato dal “Vermentino 2015“, fresco e giovanile, che grazie all’acidità della giovinezza tempera bene un risotto pancetta Rosi e piselli al parmigiano. Il terzo momento è dedicato al “Tenor Red 2015“, rosso dedicato ad Andrea Bocelli, anch’esso dai tratti distintivi di gioventù, freschezza ma anche da un contenuto tannico piuttosto irruento, che permettono di gestire al meglio delle salsicce Rosi con patate arrosto. Per i vegetariani ricordiamo che la sala prevede un’alternativa ben abbinata che sostituisce i piatti con carne (vedete il poster per i dettagli) Se il percorso gustativo è tradizionale e impegnativo insieme, la sfida viene raccolta sul versante musicale dove Emiliano Loconsolo (voce) schiera un quartetto di accompagnatori tra i più prestigiosi della piazza londinese: Graham Harvey (piano), Dave Chamberlain (double bass), Sebastian De Krom (batteria), and Dave O’Higgins (sax tenore). Emiliano ha scelto di presentare brani swing e bebop per il primo vino, melodie pù delicate e romantiche per il secondo, per concludere con brani internazionali della tradizione italiana per il Tenor Red.

Questa rassegna è supportata dalla Camera di Commercio di Pisa e dall’Università di Pisa per pubblicizzare il recentemente istituito “International Master in Healthy Food“.
